Special Olympics

Special Olympics is a global movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community, where every single person is accepted and welcomed, regardless of ability or disability. Special Olympics helps to make the world a better, healthier and more joyful place — one athlete, one volunteer, one family member at a time.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis focuses on the needs of ordinary people and children to create extraordinary life-changing moments.

“Please help me win, but if I cannot, let me be brave in the attempt.”

—– Special Olympics Motto

With similar values, it’s easy to see why so many Kiwanis clubs become involved with and support their local chapter of Special Olympics. Special Olympics and Kiwanis can easily work hand in hand.

How to Get Involved in Special Olympics:

  • Sponsor a Special Olympics event
  • Supply volunteer-power such as trainers, timers or huggers
  • Provide and/or serve meals
  • Loan or donate equipment such as coffee pots, decorations, etc.
  • Cover the cost of medals for the athletes participating in the event

How to Support the Kiwanis Special Olympics Program:

  • Nominate a Special Olympics “Athlete of the Year” – an athlete who is involved in Special Olympics and also a productive citizen in the community
  • Sponsor a Special Olympian to ride on the Kiwanis Rose Float during the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Be sure to involve all members of the Kiwanis Family and always invite Key Club and Circle K members as they are an enthusiastic group.
