Since [last summer], I have finished my first year at the University of California, San Diego, where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology, expected to graduate in 2025. Living away from home for the first time definitely had its difficulties, but with those difficulties came many opportunities to grow and learn how to be a stronger, more independent, individual! The Loretta Barksdale-McElwain scholarship has greatly helped me transition into my studies at UCSD by alleviating financial burdens . . . I am so grateful for this support from Kiwanis as I work towards completing my undergraduate education!
I have [included] a photograph of myself sitting in front of the iconic Geisel Library at UCSD. Named after Dr. Seuss and his wife, this library boasts eight floors of study spaces and educational resources! The library is also well-known for its futuristic architectural design . . . [and] . . . holds a special place in my heart, as I probably spent half of my time at UCSD in this library, studying and procrastinating with friends.
All in all, I have had a blast studying at the University of California, San Diego, thus far. I will always be thankful for the Loretta Barksdale-McElwain scholarship in supporting my undergraduate education. I will continue to study hard to become a better individual for myself and the world around me! 🙂
Sincerely,
Diane Dinh
