“As I’m entering my 3rd year at UCSB, I can’t explain how grateful I am for being a McElwain scholarship recipient. I have been working two jobs this summer to pay for my future study abroad plans, and it constantly reminds me of my luck in not having to work during school too.
During the school year, I’ve been participating in several environmental organizations such as being the Zero Waste Committee Co-Chair, Coal Oil Point Reserve Water Intern, and the Audubon Society Invertebrate Monitoring Program.
I also went on a volunteer trip to Costa Rica last summer, learning and collecting research on the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle nesting habits. This scholarship allowed me to stay focused in my field of interest and keep me grounded at the same time.
Some future plans include studying abroad in Australia and the Solomon Islands for Environmental & Community Health and being a Chapala Gardens Intern.”
