“I would like to properly thank you for choosing me as a recipient for the 2020 Richard and Cheryl Olmstead Scholarship. When I first joined KIWIN’S in my sophomore year, I was unsure of what I would accomplish within the club and Kiwanis organization. Now, as a graduated senior heading into my first year of college, I look back with fondness at the journey and growth I have experienced. I am grateful to Kiwanis and Diamond Division KIWIN’S for teaching me how to place myself in social situations in order to make an impact in my community. I am grateful for the leadership experiences offered to me. But, above all, I am grateful for the sense of family that was given to me in my hardest years of life.
This scholarship acts as a stepping stone for me into my college journey. During this pandemic and time where my own parents have their work hours cut, the Cal-Nev-Ha Children’s Fund means success. For a first generation college student such as myself, it means hope. I now have $1,000 there to help me pay for the tedious cost of school supplies and college textbooks. Now, I can continue my college journey in hopes of becoming an educator and make the world a better place. All in all, this scholarship means that I have support. Thank you so much for that.
Though my KIWIN’S journey is now over, my contributions to Kiwanis are not. I plan on joining Circle K at UC Riverside in hopes of still making a difference in this world. Thank you again for this opportunity.”
