With the help of a Pediatric Trauma Program grant from the Cal-Nev-Ha Children’s Fund and the generosity of several local organizations, the Kiwanis Club of Fletcher Hills hosted their long-anticipated bike rodeo on Monday, February 21, 2022.
Originally scheduled for 2020, but postponed due to the pandemic, the event drew a small crowd of children aged 6 to 16 and their families.
Participants learned bike safety skills, such as starting and stopping, riding in a straight line, scanning their surroundings, as well as specific hazard avoidance techniques such as quick stops and turns.
In all, approximately 50-60 children participated, with all children receiving a free bike helmet thanks to Fletcher Hills Kiwanis. Additionally, 13 children walked away with a new bike thanks to a donation from the local bike coalition. The Kiwanis club plans to host a second bike rodeo next year.
