The Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation annually invites each of our partner hospitals to apply for a grant for unfunded needs directly related to pediatric trauma and injury prevention.
Since 2014, Valley Children’s Hospital has utilized our grant to host their annual Seat Check Saturday event, assisting thousands of families by teaching them the proper use and installation of their child safety seat.
This year’s grant from the Foundation, which totaled $10,000, was used to purchase child safety seats and booster seats.
Local families were invited to attend Seat Check Saturday on September 21st to have their child safety seat inspected for proper installation and to determine if their seat is on the national recall list. New child safety seats were distributed to families who owned recalled or outdated seats. During this year’s event, volunteers found that 100% of the child safety seats checked were installed incorrectly!
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians were on-hand to show each family how to properly install their child safety seat and provided additional safety information to each family. More than twenty seats were donated to families in need that day, with the rest of the seats to be donated throughout the coming year to low-income families.
“I truly could cry because this makes me so happy,” said Kristina Pasma, Trauma Nurse Liaison at Valley Children’s Hospital. “As always, we are extremely appreciative of the support from the Cal-Nev-Ha Kiwanis Foundation. We could not do it without you.”
